My mom has always driven the utility vehicle among my parents, but since my dad bought his XC60, my mom wants to get something sportier than her current 2005 Acura MDX. She has at various points in the past talked about liking hatchbacks, and she also doesn’t like having a snobby badge attached to her car.

The only reason she has an MDX is because the Honda Pilot at the time did not offer seat memory. She has a bad back and really needs her seat dialed in so the memory is more than just a “nice-to-have” for her.

I told my dad he should take her to check out the Stinger, Regal, and Arteon. If she got a Stinger it probably wouldn’t be a GT, but still, a Stinger and an XC60 would be a nice little fleet.

If they do a lot of highway driving, she might also enjoy the 2.0 stinger... I must say that this v6 is very much overkill (even for me) and that the stinger is great at cruising, just be sure to get the electronic dampers whose effects, if perhaps subtle, are important. Here in Mexico you can get a “Everything but the v6 and the brembos” version of the stinger with all of the luxuries of the GT.

Look, it could go one of two ways:


Kia succeeds in becoming a more luxurious brand and the stinger isn’t a sales flop because of their overzealous marketing and in 5 years Stingers will retain Audi like depreciation (50% of value held or higher)

The stinger is a sales flop because no one really needs a 240hp (or 365hp) sedan with unproven luxury features and it doesn’t quite hang on in materials quality with the Germans, as such in the short term depreciation will be incredible.

It shall be seen.
